Dad's INCREDIBLE tempura batter for fresh fish

(Inspired by Zane's batter and the fresh snapper provided by Rene and her pappa)

1 egg
1 cup ice water (or with some crushed ice, as dad does)
1 cup all purpose flour

Beat an egg and add super cold water - the colder the better, as apparently this prevents the batter from absorbing the oil. Add the flour and mix just a little - batter sucks if its over beaten. Fry in a pan in a few millimeters of rice bran oil, or vegetable oil - or whatever.
